Mount Airy Forest Skills Park & Trails

A Project of Cincinnati Off-Road Alliance
Mount Airy Forest, Cincinnati, Ohio

$ 1575.00 raised of $ 200000.00

CORA is working with Cincinnati Parks on developing the Mount Airy Forest Skills Park and Trails. This project will provide a low-risk and easily accessible learning environment for kids on bikes. The park will play a key role in helping develop the programming necessary to encourage kids to ride and develop their skills.

While the Greater Cincinnati region now has over 100 miles of multi-use natural surface trail available for use by cyclists, the amount of true beginner trail is under two miles. This situation has created a barrier to entry to the sport. CORA sees this skills area as key to enabling more access to bike infrastructure. Many trails in the area require either significant technical ability or significant levels of fitness to access and utilize as intended. There is also a need for trails and bike facilities need to be located in communities within the urban core in order to make a difference in the lives of youth and urban neighborhoods, rather than limit access by locating infrastructure in rural areas. The neighboring communities of Mt. Airy and Westwood would benefit immensely from the Mt. Airy Forest Skills Park which would provide a place for children to recreate safely outdoors. In addition, Mt. Airy is easily accessible to the entire Cincinnati region, located just seven miles from Downtown Cincinnati. A facility that is accessible to local children provides the opportunity to develop programming that can reach into the community to get kids outside and on bikes.
