Help make the Middletown to Myersville Recreational Trail a reality!

This 4.2-mile path will serve as a connector between Middletown and Myersville in Frederick County, Maryland across I-70 for cyclists and pedestrians. It will also provide the community with opportunities to access outdoor recreation and alternative transportation options. Read more about the project.

Tomorrow (11/7), the Maryland Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) will be ranking trail projects to determine which ones get prioritized. Advocates in Frederick County are collecting signatures in support of the Middletown to Myersville Trail Project to present to BPAC.

How does this affect mountain bikers?

• A southern connection with Gambrill State Park through a trail from Middletown is included in the Middletown-Myersville feasibility study.
• A greenlight for this project will help future trail projects in the area including Middletown Valley, a South Mountain connection from Brunswick to Middletown, and Middletown to Frederick.
• It moves us closer to getting connectivity between parks and current/future mountain biking trails.
  

Our friends at Fairfax Parks Coalition are hosting a virtual comment party/workshop on Tuesday, November 19 at 7 p.m. to advocate against budget cuts to the Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA).

The County has requested departments, including FCPA, to submit 10% budget cuts for FY2026. This means hundreds of thousands of dollars less for park and trail maintenance. FCPA receives less than 1% of the County's funding and can't afford to make cuts to their programs.

Join the comment writing party, and advocate for park funding in Fairfax County.

There's still time to speak up for a natural surface trail connector between Bacon Ridge and Waterworks! Anne Arundel County, MD released its draft master plan for Crownsville Hospital Memorial Park (CHMP).

Good news: The County adopted MORE's recommendations for natural surface trails and a pump track.

Not so good news: County departments are having a hard time wrapping their heads around connecting Bacon Ridge, CHMP, and Annapolis Waterworks with a natural surface connector.

We need to provide continued input for a natural surface trail connector between Bacon Ridge and Waterworks, not a paved sidewalk. Public comments can be submitted via email to [email protected] until November 24.

Please consider sending brief positive comments that support:

• Natural surface trails at CHMP,
• Natural surface connections to Bacon Ridge and Waterworks,
• A paved pump track.

Our Trail Liaisons at James Long Park have been working hard to raise funds for the new Creekside Trail. They're only $2,500 away from the $15,500 needed to buy supplies and qualify for a matching grant to hire a professional trail builder!

Help finish the Creekside Trail by donating to the James Long trail fund or signing up for trail work.

It's hunting season in the region. This may mean closure of your favorite park on certain days. Some safety tips:

• Check for closures before heading out.
• Wear bright colors in the woods.
• If you see a hunter, let them know you're coming with a bell or your voice.

As NICA season comes to a close, we'd like to give a shoutout to the Eastern Shore Composite Mountain Bike Club for securing a grant to get more kids on bikes.

Earlier this year, the Eastern Shore MTB team was awarded the Outside Agency Grant through the Queen Anne's County Commissioner's Office. The grant, worth $5,765, was used to purchase three mountain bikes, athlete and coach uniforms, radios, and a bike rack. The team also had riders who were able to start their first season of mountain biking, thanks to the funding.
