Dear Motor City Mountain Biking Association Community: Thanks to everyone who responded to our survey this past fall! It truly helps us understand what our stakeholders want to see from MCMBA. While DTE Foundation Trail stands out as a clear favorite amongst respondents, our trail at Highland Rec Area took second place. We also heard you regarding supporting trail maintenance, advocating for connections between trails, looking for opportunities to add more features, and improving communications. This contributes to our planning and resource allocations for next year, so we appreciate hearing from you! Certainly the COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on our organization like many others. It’s been really hard to be forced to cut beloved events. We’ve also had to put a hold on a number of big trail projects, but instead many of our trail coordinators and volunteers spent a lot of time doing repairs, maintenance, and even some new trail building with smaller, socially-distant, groups throughout the summer. So, special thanks goes to our volunteer MCMBA Trail Coordinators who deserve kudos for making a lot of lemonade out of all the lemons this year! Speaking of trail maintenance, with winter comes the freeze/thaw cycle again. This means trails are extremely vulnerable to additional damage from riding in greasy and sloppy conditions. Thanks to everyone who helps keep us up to date on current trail conditions (another item we are working on as a result of the survey!). It’s a good time to check out our local gravel roads, paved paths, the numerous rail-to-trails, or get your early morning trail rides in when the ground is still frozen. Hopefully 2021 finds you enjoying some winter riding, getting extra time on the trainer, or time for planning epic summer trips! All of us at MCMBA wish you and yours a very Happy New Year!
