Trail Solutions Project Experience

Trail Assessment, Planning & Design

  • Ponti Romno Strada trail plan to incorporate shared-use trails, continued use of five roman bridges, and on-going archaelogical research for the Italian Office of History, Finale Ligure,
  • Trail sustainability assessment for 57-mile Wissahickon Park trail system in Philadelphia, PA
  • Designed a 15-km stacked loop trail system for the Maine Winter Sports Center in Presque Isle, ME for athletic training and public use
  • Designed 20 miles of natural surface trails for the Wisconsin DNR in the heavily used Kettle Moraine State Forest
  • Sustainability, risk, and emergency management assessment for the 35-mile Santos trail system and construction manager for Vortex Freeride Area outside Orlando, FL in conjunction with the Florida Office of Greenways and Trails

Trail Construction

  • 15 miles of mechanized construction on the Forks Area Trail System, South Carolina, 8 miles of mechanized trail construction on the cross-Georgia Bartram Trail (with Long Cane Trails)
  • Design and construction of the 8-mile of a new trail system and numerous water crossings in Rosaryville State Park, Maryland
  • Design and redevelopment of a 6-mile, shared use, urban trail system at Wakefield Park in Fairfax County, VA that experiences over 1,500 user passes per month

Trails Education

  • Instructor of over 20, 3-day field-based trail design, construction (hand, mechanized and wet area), and management courses for Maryland DNR, South Carolina, Virginia, and North Dakota State Parks
  • Co-instructor of 5 trailbuilding seminars for UK Forest Enterprises in Wales, Scotland, and England
  • Instructor for two-day advanced trailbuilding seminars in conjunction with the 2003 and 2004 Professional Trailbuilders Association conference

Past Trails Experience

Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew - 2000-2002

Instructor and designer for weekly trailbuilding seminars in 30 states and 4 countries.

Notable accomplishments include:

  • Assisted in training and development of Long Cane Trails staff
  • Legitimized freeride trail use and sustainability in Lynn Woods Reservation, MA
  • Consultant on trails-based tourism development for the Adirondack Park Mountain Bike Initiative

Elk River Touring Center, WV - 1998-1999

Lead instructor and guide at high-profile mountain biking destination. Also conducted extensive trail work on the Tea Creek Mountain Trail system including the Gauley Mountain trail

  • Class B Fellers and Wilderness First Responder Certificates
  • 5-time 100-mile solo racer (Shenandoah Mountain, Wilderness 101, Wild 100)
  • 4,000-mile "honeymoon" ride with wife, Jennifer
